Cribs

When deciding on a crib, always remember, SAFETY first. This is by far the most important factor. You want to choose a crib that will conform to all safety standards as set forth from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. You may want to visit their site at: http://www.cpsc.gov/ this will open a new window.

Styles of Cribs:
In choosing a style of crib, you may want to consider the difference between the two currently most popular types. The first type of crib is a crib with a dropside. This type of crib is especially useful when you need to reach in to pick up or lay down the baby, Also, for people that are not as tall, having a drop side is definitely more comfortable.

The second type of crib is the 4 in 1 or the static crib. These cribs can be converted to a toddler bed (with the purchase of additional toddler rails) and also to full size beds (by using metal rails or by purchasing optional side rails). These cribs are also available with a dropside but most of these cribs do not have a dropside. This makes the crib feel a lot more solid since there are no moving parts but for some customers, these cribs may be uncomfortable when trying to take the baby out or lay the baby down.

Below is an example of a Drop Side Crib from Sorelle:

You’ll see that most drop side cribs also feature drawers on the bottom. Sometimes the drawer is optional and must be purchased separately whereas other companies include the bottom drawer. The bottom drawer is functional but remember that since it spans nearly the entire width of the crib and rides on thin metal glides, they have been prone to fall off the tracks quite often.

Below is an example of a Static 4 in 1 Convertible crib:

You can see that this crib does not have a drop side. Also, it does not include the wheels (or casters). When you convert this crib into a toddler bed, you will need to remove the front rail. When you convert this crib to a full size bed, you will need to purchase the side rails. Please remember that the conversion is to a full size bed and not a twin size bed.

We carry cribs from Sorelle and Orbelle. We also carry cribs from Young America. Sorelle offers a wide selection of cribs and nursery furniture. They are located right here in New Jersey.

When deciding on a crib, please remember that we do stock some cribs but others may have to be special ordered from the manufacturer. Sometimes it may only take about 2 to 3 weeks for the items to arrive but there are times when item can be back ordered for up to 12 weeks. When deciding on your nursery furniture, you may want to plan ahead and at least get the order in about 3 months before the baby is due, that way it leaves plenty of time for the pieces to come in stock.
