When selecting baby furniture, it is important to find out if the products have been tested and are certified. The trend these days is to go with what is known as a “non-drop side crib”. These cribs do not have a drop side so they are bolted all around. These cribs are much more rigid and stable than the traditional drop side cribs. The only drawback is that without a drop side, when you lower the mattress height, it is more difficult to take the baby out of the crib.

Update regarding the drop side cribs. The most recent recall on the drop side cribs has been from Storkcraft. We do not carry storkcraft cribs. Drop side cribs are no longer manufactured so companies do not make them anymore.

A basic nursery consists of a crib, dresser, changing table. These days, a lot of customers are using the combo unit as a dresser and a changing station so that they do not have to purchase an additional changing table. Changing tables are still popular because they are easy to maneuver and can be used in a different room such as a living room or the master bedroom and not necessarily in the nursery. Another popular item for the nursery is a glider rocker and ottoman. Unfortunately we no longer carry the glider or ottoman but these items are great when you are feeding the baby. Every mom should have one. Although we no longer carry the glider and ottoman, we highly recommend Dutailier gliders and ottomans. In our opinion, they are one of the best even though they may not be the least expensive.

Don’t forget about mattresses. We carry Colgate mattresses which are the highest rated crib mattresses on the market.

When choosing baby furniture, there are many things to look for. Of course styling is very important but the most important feature to look for is SAFETY. Other features to look for are convenience, durability.
